PROJECTS / „Fort Knox”

In April 2019 webpage of „Fort Knox” Project was established. Briefly speaking, Project is about organizing cooperation between beekeepers, who decided to bring the bees under natural selection. As its known, bees may die in big numbers then, sometimes even the whole apiary might collapse. Unfortunately we live in times, when bees loose their abilieties of coping with their problems on their own – and that includes the health problems. Beekeeper is usually left alone in such a situation. She or he stands alone before difficult choice of having to turn towards toxic or biocidal substances to kill the pests and pathogens or staring over, hoping for more luck next time.

To answer those problems, few years ago „Fort Knox” was established. In the cooperation we guarantee each other compensation for the loss if bees die. „Fort Knox” is a specific „platform”, thanks to which we may help each other in such a difficult beekeeping moments, having our selection uninterrupted and succor genetic diversity and local adaptation of the population.

For the last years – and we had first aplications in 2015 – Project proved to be very useful. Since that time it has grown slowly but stable and systematically. We hope it will grow in the future so that everybody, who wants to skip treating bees with toxins or biocidals, will enjoy thriving bees, that give greater chance of surviving the threats of XXI century.

You can read about the details on our webpage and we invite You to visit it: http://bees-fortknox.pl/eng.html. The webpage is now in English and Polish version. Some of the content in German has been just created by a beekeeper from Germany, so we hope it will be also in that language in no time. We hope that the numbers of participants (not only in Poland but also abroad) and also the numbers of language versions will grow.

We invite You also to our Youtube channel, where You can watch lecture about “Fort Knox” that was given on Treatment Free Conference in Austria on April 8th 2018.
